A new survey from dating and social app BLK found that many Black travelers are approaching summer vacations with a focus on wellness, independence, and personal fulfillment rather than simply checking destinations off a bucket list.

More than half of respondents said their primary reason for traveling this summer is to relax and recharge. Exploring new destinations and visiting friends or family ranked well behind, while only a small percentage said finding romance was their main motivation.

Solo travel continues to grow in popularity. More than one-third of those surveyed said they plan to travel alone this summer, making it the most popular travel style ahead of trips with friends, family, or a romantic partner.

When choosing destinations, travelers favored a mix of vibrant cities, beach escapes, and culturally significant locations. Las Vegas, Miami, New York City, Atlanta, and New Orleans ranked among the most popular U.S. destinations, while Jamaica, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and Italy topped the list internationally.

Cost remains one of the biggest factors shaping travel plans. Airfare, hotel prices, and limited paid time off were among the most common obstacles. Many respondents said they're choosing shorter weekend getaways or road trips to make travel more affordable.

Although romance wasn't a priority for most travelers, the survey found many remain open to new relationships while away. More than 70% said they're more likely to meet new people while traveling than they are at home.

The Takeaway: Today's Black travelers are increasingly using vacations as an opportunity to rest, travel independently, and prioritize well-being. While affordability continues to influence travel plans, self-care and meaningful experiences are driving many of this summer's trips.
